The votes are in. The envelopes are open. The 98th Academy Awards have officially crowned Hollywood's best of the year - and it was a night nobody will forget.
Hosted by Conan O'Brien for the second consecutive year, the ceremony unfolded inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles with the entire entertainment world watching. Two films entered the night as the undisputed frontrunners: Ryan Coogler's Sinners - the most nominated film in Oscar history with a record-breaking 16 nods - and Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, close behind with 13.
Sinners had the potential to break the all-time record for most Oscar wins in a single night if it took home 12 or more trophies. For the Christian community, the film carried extra weight - a story soaked in the language of sin, temptation, blues music, and what it costs to be free. Whether or not you agreed with its theology, the Academy had the final say tonight.
The night also featured live performances of "Golden" from KPOP Demon Hunters and "I Lied to You" from Sinners, performed by Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq - two of the most anticipated musical moments of the ceremony. Chloé Zhao was in the running to become the first woman to win Best Director twice, while cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw had the chance to make history as the first woman and first Black cinematographer to win in her category.
