The confetti hadn't even settled yet.

One Battle After Another had just been named Best Picture at the 98th Academy Awards - one of the biggest nights of Teyana Taylor's career. She was onstage. She was celebrating. And then she stepped down for one moment to help someone up.

That's when everything shifted.

Taylor had walked down from the stage to help Warner Bros. co-head Pam Abdy get up, and when they both tried to return, a security guard physically stopped them - putting his hands on Taylor to block her from going back up.

The video that followed went everywhere.

Inside the Dolby Theatre, Taylor can be heard confronting the guard directly: "You're a man putting your hands on a female. You're very rude, very rude, very rude." Then to someone nearby - "He literally shoved me."

Then came the part that made it worse. A source told Variety the guard then told Taylor she owed him an apology.

She did not agree.

The security officer was subsequently relocated from his position inside the theatre. The Academy moved quickly with a statement. "We were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor," they said. "She has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community."

The security firm, Security Industry Specialists, acknowledged the incident and said the matter has been addressed internally.

By the time Taylor spoke publicly, she had already found her footing. "Everybody was having a good time, security was just doing a lot," she told TMZ. "There's always that one, but I'm perfectly fine. I'm happy." She added firmly - "I just don't tolerate disrespect, especially when it is unwarranted and it's unprovoked."

What the cameras missed was the fuller picture of who Teyana Taylor was that entire night. Minutes before the incident she had given Amy Madigan - the woman who beat her for Best Supporting Actress - a warm standing ovation. She then gave Best Picture winner Paul Thomas Anderson a celebratory headlock on his way up to the stage.

She spent the whole night celebrating everyone else. She only had to defend herself once.

Taylor later thanked the Academy on X, writing: "I really appreciate your unwavering love and support."

One Battle After Another won six Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
