Savannah Guthrie is preparing for a highly anticipated return to Today-but not in the way viewers might expect. Instead of immediately resuming her hosting duties, the veteran anchor will appear in a special two-part interview airing March 26 and March 27, offering a deeply personal update amid her mother Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

A sneak peek released on March 25 shows Guthrie visibly emotional as she sits down with former co-anchor Hoda Kotb. In the clip, she shares the heartbreaking reality her family has been living through, saying, "We are in agony. It is unbearable." Fighting back tears, she also reveals how the trauma has affected her daily life, explaining that she wakes up every night imagining her mother's fear.

The interview marks Guthrie's first major appearance on Today since stepping away from the show in early February to focus on her family. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1 after last being seen at her Tucson, Arizona home. Authorities believe she may have been abducted, and the case remains unsolved.

While this emotional sit-down is not a full-time return, it does signal Guthrie's continued connection to the show-and her intention to come back. She previously shared that she plans to return to Today, though she admitted she's still figuring out how and when that will happen.

For now, Guthrie remains in Tucson, close to the ongoing investigation. The upcoming interview is expected to not only give viewers insight into her personal struggle but also help bring renewed attention to her mother's case.

The two-part special airs on NBC's Today on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27.
