Meghan Trainor released her seventh studio album Toy With Me on April 24 via Epic Records - and almost immediately after, cancelled the entire tour that was supposed to support it. Wikipedia
Trainor posted her reason directly to her fans: "Balancing the release of a new album, preparing for a nationwide tour, and welcoming our new baby girl to our growing family of five has just been more than I can take on right now. I need to be home and present for each and all of them at this time."
The album itself was built around that same priority. Trainor has said the project was shaped by thinking about her children growing up in a world where the meanest comments rise to the top - a climate she knew well firsthand. She described wanting listeners to feel "safe" and able to "dance and be happy," calling it her most honest and fearless record to date.
The Get In Girl Tour was a 33-show North American run set to kick off June 12 in Michigan, with stops in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. It was cancelled on April 16 - before the album even dropped.
For a pop star who built her name on songs about self-worth and not settling, walking away from a full arena tour to be present for a newborn and a growing family is simply living what she has always sung about. The stage will always be there. These early days will not.
Toy With Me is out now on all streaming platforms.
