If you're looking for a film that rewards patience, conviction, and courage - Pressure just opened in theaters and it delivers all three.
Released May 29, Pressure is directed by Anthony Maras and stars Andrew Scott as meteorologist Captain James Stagg and Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser as General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Set in the tense 72 hours before D-Day, the film follows Eisenhower and Stagg as they face an impossible choice - launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history, or risk losing the war altogether.
The real dramatic weight comes from one man refusing to say what everyone wanted to hear. While Eisenhower's own weatherman Irving Krick was certain the weather would be calm and sunny, Stagg broke from the accepted forecast and predicted far harsher conditions - forcing commanders to debate whether to delay the invasion or push ahead into potentially disastrous weather.
Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser do terrific work in the lead roles, magnetic enough to make a movie about weather prediction debates genuinely riveting. Rotten Tomatoes critics called it "pretty exciting" with an excellent cast, praising it for focusing on the deeply human chaos within history's bloodiest conflict.
For people of faith, the story of one man standing firm on what he believed was true - even under immense pressure from generals and world powers - carries a timeless resonance. Sometimes doing the right thing means being the only one in the room willing to say it.
Pressure is rated for war-related violence and some language. A full content review is available at Plugged In.
