When the CommUnity ATL Choir took the stage on the Season 21 premiere of America's Got Talent on June 2, 2026, they weren't just auditioning - they were living out a dream years in the making.

The group, a gathering of Atlanta transplants who started coming together weekly just to sing, had one clear goal going into their audition: to stop pretending to be normal people and do their dreams full time.

They delivered on that in front of the whole country.

Their performance of "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers brought the entire audience to its feet, cheering and dancing from the very first note. The energy in the room was undeniable.

The judges responded in kind. Mel B summed up what everyone in the room was feeling: "That was just everything to me. The harmonies, the vibes, the swag. I loved it, loved it, loved it." Howie Mandel said the performance simply made him smile, and Sofía Vergara called it "perfection."

But it was Simon Cowell who delivered the highest praise. "I honestly think this was one of the best choirs we've seen in years," Cowell said - and all four judges gave them an immediate yes.

Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" has long been considered an anthem of joy and resilience - fitting for a choir built not on formal training or industry backing, but on community, shared longing, and the courage to show up. For the faith community, that kind of story resonates deeply: ordinary people, gathered around something greater than themselves, choosing to step into the light.

The CommUnity ATL Choir moves on to the next round. Keep watching them.
