More than four months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home, the case took two new turns this week - one in Mexico, and one right outside her front door.

On the Mexico front, an independent search was conducted near the U.S.-Mexico border after an anonymous tip claimed Nancy's remains were buried in an unmarked grave near Nogales, Sonora. The Mexican volunteer search group Buscando Corazones Nogales coordinated the effort with local authorities - but found no evidence linking the site to Nancy's disappearance.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department responded with an official statement. Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed: "We are aware of reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation that was provided to a group in Mexico. At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities. This investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information."

Meanwhile, tensions at Nancy's Tucson home escalated. On June 11, deputies arrested 54-year-old Alexander Zabel Jr. in front of Nancy Guthrie's home just before 5:00 p.m. Zabel, who runs the true-crime YouTube channel CriminalNetwork, was live-streaming from outside the residence when deputies made contact. During the arrest process, a Pima County Sheriff's sergeant was knocked to the ground. Zabel was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on charges of resisting arrest and public nuisance.

It marked his second arrest in the same week - he had previously been taken into custody on suspicion of obstruction of a highway and public nuisance, along with two other YouTubers.

The sheriff's department has since announced stricter enforcement in the neighborhood following continued complaints from residents.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, is the mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. She has been missing since February 1, 2026. No suspect has been publicly named. The case was reclassified as a homicide investigation on June 9.

A reward of over $1.2 million remains active for credible information. Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.

Nancy was known in her community as a woman of deep Catholic faith - someone who attended Mass regularly and was first reported missing when she failed to show up for a Sunday morning church livestream her family knew she never skipped. That quiet faithfulness continues to be the thread her family holds onto. The prayers have not stopped. Neither has the search.
