Bonnie Tyler is still in intensive care in Portugal, recovering one slow day at a time. But outside her hospital room, something unexpected is happening: her signature song is having its biggest cultural moment in decades.

A viral TikTok trend built around a scene from the 2010 film "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" - in which a middle-schooler belts out "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during a school audition - has sent the 1983 ballad surging back into millions of feeds, many belonging to fans far too young to remember its original chart-topping run.

The clip has racked up tens of millions of views, with teenagers discovering the song for the first time the same week its singer fought for her life.

The timing is striking. Tyler, 75, was placed in a medically induced coma last month following emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, and suffered a cardiac arrest as doctors worked to bring her out of it.

On June 15, her family announced she had regained consciousness, though she remains "very unwell" and continues treatment in intensive care. Her team says doctors are "confident" in a full recovery, but caution it will take time, and her remaining summer shows have been cancelled or postponed.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" has weathered cultural moments like this before - streams have spiked during past solar eclipses, and the song crossed one billion plays on Spotify earlier this year. But this resurgence carries a different weight: a new generation finding joy in a song just as its singer's loved ones are praying for hers.

It's a small reminder that even in seasons of suffering, moments of unexpected light can break through - sometimes through something as ordinary as a song on a teenager's phone. As Tyler continues her recovery, the renewed love for her music stands as its own quiet encouragement that her story, like the song says, isn't over yet.
