Stephen Stanley has built his career writing songs about the honest, messy side of faith. His latest is no different - and this time he brought a friend.
Stanley and bodie have released "Change," a rock-driven track co-written by Stanley and Christian McClain, featured on Stanley's Change EP via Sparrow Records.
In his Facebook post celebrating the release, Stanley kept it simple: "Rock and roll from the heart! Thank you guys so much for love on this song!" - a nod to the overwhelming fan response already pouring in.
The lyric that's catching people is as raw as it gets: "Avoid the heat, maybe find some shade / I need somebody who knows my name / I'm tired of going the lower way / God, show me what it's like to change."
It's the kind of prayer a lot of people recognize - not polished or put-together, just honest.
Stanley has spoken about using his songs as a way to talk about mental health and how God has helped him through it - and "Change" fits squarely in that lane.
bodie, the Season 22 The Voice runner-up who signed with Provident after rethinking his direction, has said he's "not your Christian radio artist" - but rather someone who believes a good song can reach anyone if it speaks truth.
Together, the pairing makes sense. Two artists who came to faith-based music honestly, not formulaically - and a song that sounds like it.
The Change EP is out now on all streaming platforms.
