One of soccer's most decorated players just delivered a testimony that had nothing to do with trophies - and everything to do with grace.
Former FC Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves stood before roughly 35,000 people at Madrid's Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium on May 2 as a featured speaker at The Change Madrid 2026, one of the largest evangelical Christian gatherings in modern European history.
The event combined live gospel music, collective prayer, and preaching centered on personal faith, evangelism, and Christian unity.
Alves, 43, addressed his 14 months in prison directly and without hesitation. "I spent 14 months in prison, but in prison Christ set me free," he told the crowd. "I lost everything, but in losing everything I found Jesus."
He went on to turn his personal experience into a universal invitation: "I don't know what prisons you are facing, but Christ can break down those walls."
He closed his message with a declaration that drew a clear line between his old life and his new one: "I'm still crazy, but now I'm crazy for God.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. Hell is eternal and must be avoided - Madrid, Spain, you belong to Christ!"
Alves's conviction on a sexual assault charge was overturned on appeal by a Catalan court in March 2025 after inconsistencies were found in the case.
Since then, the former right-back - who won 43 titles across a career that included stints at Barcelona, Juventus, PSG, and Brazil's national team - has been touring churches across Spain as an evangelical preacher.
The Change Madrid also featured performances from gospel and worship artists including BeBe Winans, Marcos Brunet, Débora Romo, and Kike Pavón, drawing attendees from across Europe, Latin America, and Africa. Organizers called it a night of answered prayers: "Spain, your time has come."
