Grammy-winning singer Muni Long is sharing the terrifying health battle she kept hidden from fans - and it nearly cost her life.
In an emotional interview on Good Morning America, the "Made For Me" hitmaker revealed that she underwent a double lung transplant after doctors warned she had only one week to live without the life-saving procedure.
The shocking diagnosis came after Long struggled through dates on Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine Tour" despite dealing with lupus, a condition she was diagnosed with in 2014. During the tour, she developed pneumonia and continued performing even as her health rapidly deteriorated.
"I should have never taken that tour," Long admitted, explaining that she pushed herself despite feeling increasingly ill. By her final performance, she could only make it through two songs before her body gave out.
After returning home for Thanksgiving in 2025, Long woke up in a hospital bed and received devastating news from doctors. They told her she needed a double lung transplant immediately or she would likely die within a week.
"My jaw dropped. Literally," she recalled. "I was like, 'That's rude.'" But physicians made it clear the situation was critical.
The singer confessed she initially worried about what the surgery would mean for her career and her voice. Ultimately, thoughts of her son helped her make the decision.
"I can't sing if I'm not here," she said.
Now, six months after the transplant, Long says she's doing "fabulous." She reports being symptom-free, infection-free, and focused on recovery. She also revealed she underwent vocal surgery and is preparing for additional checkups as she works toward returning to the stage.
In a surprising twist, Long believes her voice may actually be stronger than before.
"My voice now is totally different. It's actually better," she shared, though she acknowledged doctors have advised her to wait six months to a year before considering a full return to performing.
