Young Washington is quickly becoming one of the biggest surprise success stories of the summer, and now it's getting a major Hollywood endorsement.
Just days after the historical drama opened to an impressive $19.4 million at the domestic box office, actor Chris Pratt is urging moviegoers not to miss it-while director Jon Erwin has already revealed that another Revolutionary War epic is officially in the works.
Pratt couldn't hide his excitement after attending a screening of the film, telling fans to "run to the movie theater" to see it.
"I can't believe it. It's so good," Pratt said in a video shared on social media. Comparing the film to The Revenant, Pride and Prejudice, and Braveheart, he described Young Washington as an unforgettable cinematic experience that exceeded his expectations.
Pratt admitted that, like many Americans, he knew George Washington as the face on the quarter but knew very little about his early years.
"You know the guy on the quarter," Pratt joked. "But you don't know Young Washington. I didn't."
The Marvel star also singled out lead actor William Franklyn-Miller, predicting that audiences everywhere will soon recognize his name.
"Mark my words," Pratt said. "Very soon everybody in the world will know his name. He's a massive star."
As excitement surrounding the film continues to build, director Jon Erwin surprised fans with another major announcement.
While filming a video at George Washington's historic Mount Vernon estate, Erwin confirmed that he has already begun writing a follow-up film titled 1776, which will continue Washington's remarkable journey through the American Revolution.
"We're working on another one right now," Erwin revealed. "If you think Young Washington is big, wait for 1776. It's epic in every way."
Erwin also shared that Young Washington was filmed entirely on location without the use of sound stages, with the cast enduring real mud, rain, wind, and rugged landscapes to capture the authenticity of Washington's world.
The film's early reception suggests audiences are embracing that approach. Young Washington earned an A CinemaScore along with a verified audience score of more than 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, helping fuel strong word-of-mouth after its opening weekend.
Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, Sir Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Joel Smallbone, and William Franklyn-Miller, Young Washington has emerged as one of the year's standout historical dramas.
Between Chris Pratt's enthusiastic endorsement, an impressive $19.4 million opening weekend, and the announcement that 1776 is already being written, it appears Young Washington is more than just a successful debut-it could be the beginning of an ambitious new Revolutionary War film franchise.
