New Details Emerge About Storage Wars Star Darrell Sheets' Final Months Before His Death

Several months after the death of Storage Wars fan favorite Darrell Sheets, newly released police records are providing additional insight into the personal struggles the reality television star reportedly faced in the weeks leading up to his passing.

According to records obtained by TMZ, Sheets was dealing with significant stress, ongoing insomnia, family conflict, and online harassment before his death on April 22 at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was 67.

Authorities ruled his death a suicide.

The newly released documents indicate that Sheets had experienced mounting emotional strain in the months before his death. His longtime girlfriend reportedly told investigators that he had been under "tremendous stress" and was frequently unable to sleep. Despite those challenges, she reportedly told police that he had not expressed intentions to harm himself and that their relationship remained strong.

Police also recovered a handwritten note that investigators believed was a suicide note. According to a police summary, the note referenced ongoing Facebook bullying, suggesting that online harassment had become a significant source of distress.

The allegations echo comments previously made by several of Sheets' former Storage Wars co-stars. Auctioneers Laura and Don Dotson, along with fellow buyer Rene Nezhoda, have spoken publicly about what they described as relentless cyberbullying directed at Sheets in the months before his death. They alleged the harassment included impersonation, false accusations, and attacks that deeply affected the reality star.

The police records also reveal that Sheets had recently experienced tension within his own family.

According to investigators, his girlfriend said Sheets had a heated verbal argument with his son, Brandon, over ongoing family issues. Brandon frequently appeared alongside his father during the early seasons of Storage Wars, with the pair becoming one of the show's most recognizable father-and-son teams.

The disagreement reportedly became so intense that Sheets' girlfriend chose to leave the home during the argument. She later told police that Sheets confided he did not want to be left alone with his son afterward and felt he had "let him down."

Investigators also noted that Sheets later received text messages from his daughter-in-law accusing his girlfriend of taking money from him, adding another layer to what police described as escalating family stress.

The records also provide a timeline of Sheets' final hours. According to his girlfriend's statement, he struggled to sleep that night. She said she found him standing in the doorway of his office, where he encouraged her to return to bed. A short time later, she reported hearing a single gunshot.

Sheets became one of the breakout personalities on A&E's Storage Wars after the series premiered in 2010. Known for his larger-than-life personality and willingness to make bold bids on abandoned storage lockers, he remained a fan favorite for more than a decade and appeared on the series through 2023.

The reality competition follows professional buyers as they bid on abandoned storage units without knowing exactly what treasures-or disappointments-are waiting inside, helping turn Sheets into one of the franchise's most recognizable stars.
