More than two decades after his remarkable story captivated millions around the world, Colton Burpo, the little boy whose near-death experience inspired the bestselling book and hit movie Heaven Is for Real, is opening up about what really happened-and how the experience changed his life forever.
Burpo was just three years old when a ruptured appendix nearly claimed his life in 2003. After emergency surgery, he stunned his parents by describing what he said was a trip to heaven. He claimed he met Jesus, angels, deceased family members he had never known, and biblical figures including King David, Samson, Peter, John, Mary, and John the Baptist. His incredible account eventually became one of the most talked-about Christian testimonies of the 21st century.
Now 27, Burpo says his story has never changed.
In a revealing new interview, he insists he still stands by every part of his testimony despite years of public scrutiny and online rumors suggesting he had recanted his experience. Instead, he says growing older and studying Scripture has only strengthened his conviction about what he witnessed.

Burpo candidly admitted that growing up as "the Heaven Kid" came with enormous pressure.
