A collective of worship pastors from Life.Church, the multi-site church led by Pastor Craig Groeschel, the group writes songs born out of real ministry, real stories, and a desire to help people grow in their relationship with Christ.
As they prepare to release their new album, Simple, on August 5-following the uplifting singles "Hunger" and "Good News"-Life.Church Switch opens up about their songwriting process, the message behind the new project, and how serving in the local church continues to shape every song they create.

Q: For readers who may be discovering Life.Church Switch for the first time, can you introduce the group and share the vision behind your music ministry?
Life.Church Switch is a collective of worship pastors from Life.Church, a multi-site church with a mission to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Life.Church Switch is passionate about creating modern music that encourages listeners to pursue a relationship with Jesus.

Q: Congratulations on the release of "Good News." What inspired the song, and what do you hope listeners take away from its message of hope in Jesus?
Life can feel loud and heavy, but our hope is in Jesus. He came to save us, even though we don't deserve it. With Him, we can't lose. He always comes through, He always provides, and no matter what we're facing, He is all we need. That's the good news, and you don't have to read between the lines to find it. It's right there, clearly stated, for anyone who needs it.
Q: Every songwriter approaches the creative process differently. What does songwriting typically look like for Life.Church Switch, and how do ideas grow into songs that serve both the Church and everyday listeners?
When we get together to write, the first thing we do is share stories of what God is doing in our lives or teaching us. We're all pastors, so we have a special view of how God is moving in the lives of the people in our church, and we'll share those stories, too! Often, we end up pulling inspiration from specific stories, or themes from multiple. Then the songs flow from there. Usually we have a producer in the room who is creating the track as we're writing the lyrics, and there's a fun creative synergy that happens. We know a song is complete when we can step back and look at it and say its message is clear, it's spiritually and theologically sound, and it will point people to the Truth and hope of Jesus in an impactful way.
Q: Your upcoming album, Simple, follows the recent release of both "Hunger" and "Good News." What is the central theme that ties the album together, and what has God been teaching you through these songs?
The theme that runs throughout the entire Simple project is that no matter what we walk through or experience, the way of Jesus - his Gospel - simplifies and clarifies our steps. Life with Jesus is not easy, it's not uncomplicated. In fact he promised us that "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" in John 16:33. But the way of living that he modeled for us simplifies how we're to respond to all of it. In Matthew 11:29-30, Jesus says, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." It almost sounds like a paradox - that we can expect to face hardship, yet find rest for our souls at the same time by walking with Jesus in simplicity - but that is exactly what we find when we allow Jesus to take the lead in our lives. There's a range of emotions tied to what this can look like in different seasons of life, and that's exactly what Simple explores.
Q: Worship music often reflects both personal experiences and the life of the local church. How does being part of Life.Church influence the songs you write and the stories you choose to tell?
As I mentioned earlier, we are all pastors at Life.Church and that gives us a unique perspective on how God is moving in the lives of individuals in our communities, as well as how He's moving through our communities as a whole. It's a very special thing to be able to see his faithfulness time and time again reflected in people's unique stories! This perspective allows us to craft songs of prayer and praise for our people in different seasons.
