Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have made British chart history, with their duet "Rein Me In" becoming the longest-running No. 1 single in UK Official Chart history.
The song reached 19 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the chart, surpassing the 73-year record held by Frankie Laine's "I Believe," which spent 18 weeks at No. 1 in 1953. The Official Charts Company confirmed the milestone Friday.
"Rein Me In" is a reworked duet version of a track from Fender's third studio album, "People Watching." The song first entered the UK singles chart last June and spent 35 weeks climbing before finally reaching No. 1 in February - breaking a separate record along the way for the most consecutive weeks in the top 40 before reaching the summit, previously held by Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud."
Once it reached No. 1, the track briefly lost the spot to Harry Styles' "American Girls" before reclaiming the top position just a week later, continuing its reign for months. The Official Charts Company presented Fender with an Official Chart Record Breaker Award to mark the achievement.
"Completely lost for words, thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is," Fender said. "Can't believe we broke the UK record!"
Officials called it a significant moment for two homegrown British artists to write a new chapter in chart history together. The song gives Dean her second UK No. 1 and Fender his first-ever chart-topping single.
