Bluegrass star Billy Strings was hit in the head by an object thrown from the crowd during a concert in Fishers, Indiana, on Thursday, August 6, and he made sure the audience knew he wasn't happy about it.
Strings was mid-set at the Fishers Event Center, the first of three sold-out shows at the venue, when the object, believed by fans online to be a lighter, struck him directly in the head while he was speaking to the crowd. Moments earlier, he had thanked fans for the show, which was a makeup date after he postponed an earlier performance following a skateboarding injury in April.
Visibly caught off guard, Strings paused the moment to react, telling the crowd, "Maybe I shouldn't have came back," before pointedly calling out whoever was responsible. The audience responded with loud boos directed at the person who threw the object, and the show continued.
The following night, Strings returned to the same stage for night two of his three-show run - this time wearing a hockey helmet borrowed from Fishers' minor league hockey team, the Indy Fuel. The crowd cheered as he walked out in the gear, and he flashed a brief smile before launching into the next song, turning what had been a tense moment into a lighthearted one.
No serious injuries were reported, and Strings completed the three-night run at the venue as scheduled. The Grammy winner is currently touring behind his upcoming album, So Much for Goodbyes, set for release August 28.
