Thousands of fans lined Newton Road in Mumbles, Wales on Saturday as Bonnie Tyler's coffin, draped in the red dragon flag of Wales, was brought home to the seaside village she called home for the final time.
The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer, who died July 8 at age 75 following complications from surgery in Portugal, was welcomed by crowds standing two and three deep along the pavements as her signature hit played through the streets and applause followed the cortege down the hill. Mourners also gathered outside her former Mumbles Road home, leaving floral tributes as the hearse passed by.
A post on the Bonnie Tyler Fans page that evening called it an "extremely sad day," closing simply: "Goodnight, Gaynor" - a nod to her birth name, Gaynor Hopkins.
Her family, who asked for donations to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru in lieu of flowers, will hold a public celebration of her life Monday at St Mary's Church, also known as Swansea Minster, before a private family service and burial near her birthplace of Skewen. A book of condolence remains open at Y Storfa on Oxford Street through Aug. 24 for fans wishing to pay their respects.
