Jonathan Daviss is closing one chapter and opening a wildly different one - almost in the same breath.
As Netflix's "Outer Banks" wraps its fifth and final season, which premiered August 20, Daviss reflected on six years playing Pope Heyward, the group's resident brains. "When we first came on, I didn't expect it ever to be what it became and what it means to so many people," the now 26-year-old actor said, adding, "It's crazy that we're even here." He described the experience of returning to set each season as feeling like "being in college... you get to go do a show with all your friends and it's familiar."
But as the Pogues take their final treasure hunt, Daviss is already stepping into his next role - playing hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg in an upcoming Craig Brewer-directed biopic. Daviss admitted he thought landing the part was a long shot when he sent in his audition tape, calling the casting a surreal turn in his career.
The show's cast has spent recent days publicly reflecting on the series' end, sharing behind-the-scenes photos and stories from the Croatia set where season five filmed. Co-star Chase Stokes recalled the moment they first read the final script: "We all frantically dropped what we were doing... and got on a group FaceTime after."
