Just when audiences thought it might be safe to turn off the lights, Insidious: Out of the Further director Jacob Chase is preparing to unleash another nightmare-and his next target is the seemingly innocent childhood sleepover.
According to Deadline, Chase is reteaming with Blumhouse Atomic Monster for Sleepover, a large-scale horror movie scheduled to hit theaters on October 8, 2027. Universal Pictures had previously reserved the date for an unidentified Blumhouse Atomic Monster release, but the mystery has now been solved.
Plot details remain tightly guarded, but the studio is already teasing the project as the "quintessential sleepover nightmare." That description alone raises some deliciously disturbing questions: Who-or what-shows up after the parents go to bed? And how many children will still be inside the house by morning?
Chase co-wrote the screenplay with Night Swim filmmaker Bryce McGuire, adapting McGuire's original short story. Horror powerhouse Jason Blum will produce, while Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira are serving as executive producers. Lilly Tyson is overseeing the movie for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
The announcement arrives just as Chase is celebrating a bloody good weekend at the box office. Insidious: Out of the Further reportedly opened with an impressive $60.3 million worldwide, helping propel the 16-year-old supernatural franchise beyond $800 million globally. Hollywood clearly took notice-and Blumhouse apparently had no intention of letting Chase escape.
Sleepover will be presented by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster as a Cinescape Entertainment production. No cast members have been announced, leaving horror fans to wonder who will receive an invitation to the most terrifying overnight gathering of 2027.
