Jersey Shore star Jenni "JWoww" Farley marked her children's first day of school this week from a hospital room instead of the front porch - and she's opening up about what put her there.

On Thursday, September 3, the 41-year-old reality star shared on Instagram that she's been battling a kidney infection and appendicitis, admitting the health scare had been building for months before it finally caught up with her.

"Not the 'first day of school' picture I wanted to post... but then again, I guess we wouldn't have one," Farley wrote, alongside a photo taken in her hospital room with daughter Meilani, 12, and son Greyson, 10.

She told followers this past week has been "one of the hardest weeks of my life," spending each day "fighting to get healthy enough to get home to my family." Farley admitted the illness didn't come out of nowhere - she'd been dealing with unexplained weight loss and exhaustion for months before things came to a head.

Rather than miss the milestone entirely, Farley pivoted: she filmed herself doing Meilani's hair from her hospital bed, and credited husband Zack Carpinello - whom she married this past June - with bringing the kids by so she could see them off before school.

She closed her post with a wider reflection, noting that for some families, "something happened this summer that may have changed their lives forever" - a reminder, she said, that her own hardship is temporary. It's a perspective that echoes a truth many find in seasons of hardship: gratitude and hope can coexist with pain, even from a hospital bed.

Farley has not shared additional updates on her condition or expected recovery timeline.
