Nearly 40 years after it was filmed, George Michael's first solo concert tour is finally getting its moment on the big screen.
George Michael: The Faith Tour arrives in theaters December 11, built from previously unseen footage of two concerts Michael performed in Paris in May 1988, at the height of the Faith album era. The footage was shot across 14 cameras on 35mm film and has been newly restored and remastered for the theatrical release, directed by longtime Michael collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin.
The film captures Michael at just 24 years old, only a year removed from Wham!, stepping into his first run as a solo headliner. According to the film's producers, it offers "an intimate yet explosive glimpse of an artist in complete command of his voice and stagecraft."
What makes the project stand out beyond the rare footage is Michael himself, heard in an unearthed interview used as voiceover throughout the film. In the trailer, he reflects directly on the album's title track and what it meant to him at that point in his life and career.
"I suppose what 'faith' meant to me was that life was still gonna deliver," Michael says.
The theatrical release opens with a short film by Mary McCartney titled Finding Faith, offering context on the tour's cultural impact. Alongside the film, an 18-track live album of previously unreleased Wham! and solo recordings from the tour is also set for release.
Michael died in 2016 at age 53. Nearly a decade later, this release gives fans a rare, unfiltered look at the moment his solo career truly began.
