Candace Cameron Bure is heading into the jungle-and she is bringing Scripture with her.
Ahead of her appearance on Season 5 of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, the outspoken Christian actress opened up to FOX News host Lara Trump about confronting fear, surviving Hollywood and refusing to silence the faith that has defined her since childhood.
The 50-year-old Full House star admitted that the brutal military-style competition pushed her well beyond her comfort zone. Filmed in the Malaysian jungle, the new season reportedly subjects its celebrity recruits to cliffs, snakes and punishing physical challenges. One preview even shows Bure vomiting and screaming as the pressure intensifies.
But Bure did not prepare only in the gym. She memorized Scripture, knowing she would need something stronger than physical fitness when fear took over.
"I memorized a lot of Scripture," Bure revealed, explaining that she repeatedly reminded herself that God had not given her a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind. She also drew courage from the biblical promise that God would remain with her wherever she went.
The actress then addressed another battle-remaining openly Christian in an entertainment industry where faith can be divisive. Although Bure said her managers and closest advisers never pressured her to tone down her beliefs, she acknowledged that her outspoken convictions have reportedly cost her work and led critics to label her "polarizing."
Yet Bure made it clear that hiding Jesus is one compromise she will not make.
"If I didn't talk about my faith, I wouldn't be authentic to me and who I am," she told Trump. Christianity, she explained, has been central to her identity since she was a little girl. Silencing that part of her life would mean refusing to speak about the very things that make her who she is.
Bure admitted she once felt "scared all the time," but eventually decided she could no longer allow fear to control her decisions. Now, when an intimidating opportunity arrives, she tries to say yes-and then waits to see what God will do through it.
"God always shows up," she declared, adding that His strength becomes most evident when she feels weak.
That belief will face a particularly wild test when Special Forces: World's Toughest Test premieres September 24. Between the jungle warfare, dangerous stunts and emotional breakdowns, Bure may be pushed to her limit. But if Hollywood has not persuaded her to abandon her faith, a few cliffs and snakes probably will not do it either.
