Octavia Spencer finally has an Emmy of her own. The Oscar-winning actress won Outstanding Narrator on night one of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for her work on Investigation Discovery's true-crime docuseries "Lost Women of Alaska" - beating out legendary broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, who was nominated for two separate nature documentaries in the same category.
It's Spencer's first Emmy win after two previous nominations: in 2024 for narrating "Lost Women of Highway 20," and in 2020 for her lead role in "Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker." The 56-year-old also beat out a stacked field that included Jodie Foster and Werner Herzog.
Speaking ahead of the win, Spencer said she felt "incumbent on me as a citizen of the world" to make "Lost Women of Alaska," a docuseries spotlighting a string of underreported crimes against indigenous women. She's said she's followed true-crime stories since she was 11 years old, calling the "Lost Women" series "the perfect vehicle" for a story she felt needed telling.
The win also moves Spencer one step closer to EGOT status - she already holds an Oscar (Best Supporting Actress, "The Help"), a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA, with only a Tony and a Grammy left to complete the set.
