Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Secret Is Out—And His Cocky "Avengers: Doomsday" Tease Suddenly Makes Perfect Sense

Hugh Jackman may have pretended Marvel had frightened him into silence, but the claws are officially out: Wolverine is heading into Avengers: Doomsday.

The Australian superstar previously sent fans into overdrive when he was asked whether Wolverine would appear in the highly anticipated superhero epic. Jackman initially insisted he could not reveal anything-before delivering a characteristically cheeky boast.

"I really can't say much," he teased. "Except, when you say 'appear,' more like dominate and destroy every other character-I'm kidding."

Jackman then joked about the terrifying consequences of breaking Marvel's notoriously strict secrecy agreements. His playful refusal to give a straight answer was widely interpreted as a barely disguised confirmation that Wolverine's return was already being planned.

Now the secret is no longer quite so secret.

Jackman and his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Ryan Reynolds crashed Marvel Studios' D23 presentation through a comedic video message. The pair jokingly pleaded with Marvel boss Kevin Feige to squeeze Wolverine and Deadpool into the already enormous Doomsday lineup. Jackman made the announcement sound less like a triumphant return and more like a hostage situation. "If this looks like I'm recording this video against my will, it's because I AM," he quipped on social media.

The revelation ends months of theatrical denials and suspiciously careful answers. Jackman had repeatedly kept the door open after resurrecting Wolverine in 2024's billion-dollar blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, even admitting that his "gut" told him he was not yet finished with the character.

His arrival also reunites Wolverine with several veterans of Fox's original X-Men franchise. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer and Alan Cumming are among the mutants assembling for Marvel's multiverse-shattering event.

They will join an astonishing ensemble that includes Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Channing Tatum and Simu Liu. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU in the radically different role of Victor von Doom, while Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers. 

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will bring together the Avengers, New Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four and X-Men against Doctor Doom. The movie arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.

Marvel may have demanded silence, but Jackman's mischievous "dominate and destroy" comment now sounds less like a joke-and more like a warning.
