Comedian Carrot Top is awake, breathing without assistance, and showing encouraging signs of improvement while remaining under close medical supervision following a reported suicide attempt.
The 61-year-old Las Vegas entertainer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was hospitalized after an emergency on Friday, September 18. His representative has now confirmed that he is conscious, surrounded by loved ones, and even sharing jokes with the medical professionals caring for him.
"Scott remains hospitalized and under close medical care," the representative told TMZ. "He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him."
The comedian has also been reading the flood of messages sent by frightened fans. Many have reminded Thompson that the man who spent decades making strangers laugh does not have to face his darkest moments alone.
His scheduled performances at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on Friday, Saturday, and Monday were canceled while he continued receiving treatment. It remains unclear when-or whether-he will be medically cleared to return to the stage.
Carrot Top has headlined at the Luxor since 2005, making him one of the longest-running resident performers in Las Vegas. His deliberately outrageous appearance, wild collection of homemade props, and frenetic stage personality turned him into one of America's most recognizable comedians.
Behind that larger-than-life persona, however, is a private man now facing a deeply personal crisis. His family has thanked fans for their concern and prayers while requesting space for Thompson to recover away from public speculation.
"His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy," his representative previously said.
The encouraging update does not mean the crisis has passed. Physical stabilization is only one stage of recovery following a reported suicide attempt, and Thompson remains hospitalized as doctors monitor his condition.
For Christians, this moment is a reminder that humor does not protect someone from despair. The people who create joy for others may still carry suffering that audiences cannot see. Prayer should therefore be accompanied by compassion, discretion, and meaningful support rather than gossip about the details of a person's most vulnerable hour.
