Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave Taylor Swift some credit for Travis Kelce's strong start to the season, telling reporters Monday that her demanding tour schedule may be pushing the tight end to keep working.
Kelce posted nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City's 33-30 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Reid, addressing chatter that marriage might slow Kelce down, pushed back directly: "Everybody questioned with the wedding and all that, would he be out of shape and honeymooning the whole time... but he works his rear end off." He pointed to Kelce's offseason focus on strength and conditioning as the real driver behind his explosiveness at 36.
Reid then turned the credit toward Swift. "I think Taylor, putting on four-hour shows, you've got to work hard, too. So I'm sure she kicks him in the butt a little bit there, too," he said.
The comments came a day after Swift became the moment's biggest talking point at Arrowhead Stadium. Watching from a suite when Kelce hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes, Swift pointed to her wedding ring and mouthed, "That's my husband!" She debuted a ruby-studded necklace featuring Kelce's No. 87 for the occasion.
Kelce, for his part, recently said married life has sharpened Swift's football IQ rather than distracted from it. "Now she knows everything," he said on the "New Heights" podcast, describing her catching penalty calls before the referees announce them.
