Anne Hathaway's Verity won the weekend box office, while Tom Cruise's Digger opened far below expectations, according to Sunday studio estimates.

What did Verity make? The Colleen Hoover adaptation opened to an estimated $32.6 million from 3,510 U.S. and Canadian theaters. It added about $30 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to roughly $62.5 million against a reported $40 million budget. Variety reports that 78% of opening-weekend moviegoers were women. Reports say it is Hathaway's third No. 1 opening of 2026, after The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey.

What did Digger make? Alejandro G. Iñárritu's satire opened in fifth place with an estimated $8 million from 3,321 theaters, and about $20 million worldwide. Reports put its budget at $125 million or more. TheWrap calls it Cruise's weakest opening since Lions for Lambs in 2007.

Is Digger a flop? Trade outlets are calling the debut a major disappointment, but the film has only just begun its theatrical run. Final numbers are due Monday.

Is Verity suitable for families? No. It is rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence and bloody images. Reviews are mixed, and faith-based reviewers urge caution. Movieguide advises that even mature Christian adults pass, while Plugged In issued a content caution. Parents and church groups should check a detailed content guide first.
