Miley Cyrus has another chart record attached to her name, but this one comes with a painful twist. After opening at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Bass Persuades reportedly plunged to No. 157 the following week-a staggering fall of 156 positions that has turned a chart-topping celebration into an uncomfortable headline.
The dramatic reversal has prompted both disbelief and fierce loyalty online. Instagram account BasicallyHollywood shared the news with a defense of the singer, insisting that her standing as an icon remained intact. For devoted fans, an album's place in their personal rotation clearly carries more weight than its position on a weekly chart.
Yet Cyrus is hardly the first major artist to experience a spectacular tumble from the summit. Céline Dion, Madonna, Bon Jovi and Travis Scott have all appeared in similarly bruising chart stories, although the circumstances-and the records involved-differ.
Ten Other Albums That Took A Dramatic Fall
The following releases offer some of the most striking comparisons, ranked by the size of their one-week falls from No. 1. The list includes both new releases and older projects that returned to the top.
| Rank | Artist | Album | One-Week Fall |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Travis Scott | Days Before Rodeo | No. 1 → off the Billboard 200 |
| 2 | Bon Jovi | This House Is Not for Sale | No. 1 → No. 169 |
| 3 | Tyler, the Creator | Call Me If You Get Lost | No. 1 → No. 139 |
| 4 | Céline Dion | Courage | No. 1 → No. 111 |
| 5 | Brand New | Science Fiction | No. 1 → No. 97 |
| 6 | Brockhampton | Iridescence | No. 1 → No. 88 |
| 7 | Madonna | Madame X | No. 1 → No. 77 |
| 8 | Yeat | Lyfestyle | No. 1 → No. 70 |
| 9 | Jack White | Boarding House Reach | No. 1 → No. 62 |
| 10 | The Killers | Wonderful Wonderful | No. 1 → No. 59 |
These chart movements are documented in the Billboard 200 records compilation, with Scott's complete departure separately reported. An exit from the chart has no exact numbered destination.
Céline Dion Provides The Closest Female Comparison
Dion's Courage offers a particularly relevant precedent because its collapse came immediately after a No. 1 debut. In 2019, the album slid to No. 111 in its second week, a 110-position fall that was reported at the time as the largest second-week drop for an album entering at the summit. Cyrus' reported plunge exceeds that movement by 46 places.
Madonna's Madame X also suffered a sharp reversal, falling from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019. Both examples show that even an established superstar's opening-week success can be followed by a very different second-week result.
Why The Bon Jovi Comparison Needs A Caveat
Bon Jovi's fall to No. 169 was larger than Cyrus' drop, but it followed a return to No. 1 in 2018. This House Is Not for Sale had originally arrived in 2016 and later regained the summit with help from a concert-ticket album redemption offer. Describing that 2018 tumble as its second week after its original debut would therefore be misleading.
Scott's case was more extreme still: Days Before Rodeo disappeared from the Billboard 200 entirely after reaching No. 1 in 2024. It had climbed to the summit in its fourth chart week following vinyl shipments, making it another different scenario from Cyrus' immediate post-debut fall.
For Cyrus, the immediate story is a startling reversal after a triumphant opening. Whether Bass Persuades rebounds remains to be seen, but its second-week performance has already placed it alongside some of the most dramatic chart tumbles associated with music's biggest names.
