Ella Langley's record may only be safe until the Christmas season starts.
"Choosin' Texas" now holds the all-time mark with 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, even after Taylor Swift's "Patient Zero" ended its latest run. It passed Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" with its 23rd week, on the chart dated Sept. 26.
Who's next on the list?
- 24 weeks: "Choosin' Texas," Ella Langley
- 22 weeks: "All I Want for Christmas Is You," Mariah Carey
- 19 weeks: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," Shaboozey
- 19 weeks: "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus
Mariah Carey's holiday song built its 22 weeks through recurring Christmas-season returns after first topping the chart in 2019. By the math, she would need three more weeks at No. 1 to pass Langley's 24, and two to tie. Variety says Carey's recording seems destined to return to No. 1 in December, as it always does.
Can Langley protect the record? Variety notes she could Carey-proof her record by adding a few more weeks before the Christmas season hits. That's harder now that Swift holds the top spot, and Variety says Swift has a strong chance at a second week.
How did the song get here? It didn't win with one long streak. It kept returning to No. 1, with its latest run lasting 14 consecutive weeks.
