Authorities have not said Nancy Guthrie is dead. She is still listed as missing, and no suspect has been named.
Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on Jan. 31. Searches asking whether she has died keep rising as the case nears nine months. Here is what is confirmed.
Has anyone claimed she died?
Sources told ABC News that a second ransom note, sent to a Tucson TV station days after she vanished, said she died shortly after being taken. Authorities have not confirmed that claim. The FBI has said some notes were deemed extortion attempts without legitimacy, while others are still under investigation.
Has a body been found?
No. A bone fragment believed to be human was found Oct. 7 in an Oro Valley wash, about 10 miles from her home. Officials have not established a connection to the case, and no findings have been released. Remains found in August were determined not to be hers.
Is the case still active?
Yes. The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI say the investigation continues. The family has offered a $1 million reward, and the FBI up to $100,000. Officials urge the public not to respond to unsolicited messages.
The Guthrie family continues to ask for prayers, and JubileeCast joins them in praying for Nancy's safe return.
