Mariah Carey has released a restored, true 4K version of her "Loverboy Remix" music video as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of her 2001 album, "Glitter."
Directed by David LaChapelle, the video features Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II. It was filmed at LA County Raceway in May 2001, and the restoration was rebuilt from the original unassembled 35mm film, scanned frame by frame in 4K and re-edited shot by shot to match the original. For the first time since its original release, the video is available in digital format and on streaming platforms.
Carey announced the release on Instagram, calling it one of her favorite videos she has ever made and describing the restored version as fun, colorful and campy.
The video is part of a larger anniversary rollout. "Glitter (25th Anniversary Edition)" arrives Oct. 30 through Def Jam Records/UMe. The album returns to streaming platforms as an expanded Digital Deluxe Edition with 15 additional tracks, including selections from Carey's personal vault and new collaborations with Rochelle Jordan and Channel Tres. It also returns to vinyl for the first time since its original release.
"Glitter" arrived on Sept. 11, 2001, as the soundtrack to Carey's film of the same name, and both struggled commercially at the time. In a 2009 interview, Carey said she reads the Bible nearly every night and credited her faith with helping her return to the top after that difficult period.
