Southern Nazarene University safety Tyler Ulrich has died at 21, five days after suffering a traumatic injury during a football game.
The school announced his death on Oct. 15.
Ulrich was hurt on Oct. 10 in a game against Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas. The game was delayed for close to an hour while he received care, and he was then taken to a hospital. SNU has not said what the injury was or how he died. The Athletic reported that an earlier post described a head injury, but the school has not confirmed details.
Ulrich was a sophomore in his third season with the team and had 16 starts in 20 games. Head coach Dustin Hada remembered him in a post on X: "Man of God, ultimate example of quiet strength, loyal, worker, joyous."
SNU President Keith Newman said Ulrich was surrounded by his family, teammates, and friends when he died. The university asked the community to pray for those who loved him, held a campuswide prayer, and made grief counseling available. The team also canceled its Saturday game against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Southern Nazarene is a Church of the Nazarene university in Bethany, Oklahoma. JubileeCast joins the SNU community in praying for Tyler's family, teammates, and friends.
