As Ben Affleck's Netflix thriller Animals dominates the charts, many fans are asking about his faith. In a 2020 interview, Affleck said he is a Christian who goes to a Methodist church and still wrestles with belief.
Animals, which Affleck directed and stars in, has been the No. 1 movie on Netflix in the U.S. since its Oct. 9 release.
Affleck's faith comments come from a 2020 Beliefnet interview. At the time he said, "I go to the Methodist Church." He was open about the doubts too, saying "I struggle with belief."
He described the idea that everyone is a sinner as "enormously beautiful and elegant." In the same interview, he said it is our job to seek redemption, to love one another and to not judge. He also named forgiveness, saying "to forgive one another" belongs on that list. He added that he sees those ideas as very relevant today, perhaps more than ever.
For an actor whose film is topping the charts, his own words keep pointing back to grace, forgiveness and an honest struggle with belief.
