Kid Rock says the number 117 kept showing up in his life, and it led him to James 1:17, the verse that inspired his new faith-based album Halfway 2 Jesus.
Rock said his birthday is 1-17-71 and that he has long noticed combinations of ones and sevens. He pointed to living off Exit 17 and a 17 mph speed limit near his home. His full name is Robert James Ritchie.
As he began what he calls his spiritual journey, he said the numbers kept appearing in unexpected places. He then looked up James 1:17, since James is his middle name, and found a verse about every good and perfect gift coming from above.
He recalled thinking, "you got my attention," and began writing. He said "some of this stuff just came." He called it the easiest record he has ever written.
Halfway 2 Jesus was released Oct. 17, and the lead single is titled "James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)." Kid Rock told Billboard the album is about forgiveness and second chances.
For Kid Rock, a number he noticed all his life became a reminder to listen when God is drawing your heart.
