A borrowed apartment became another crisis for Carl Lentz's family when his infidelity became public. In a newly reported account, the former Hillsong pastor and his wife, Laura, allege that Justin and Hailey Bieber gave them just 24 hours to leave the couple's New York apartment during the fallout from his 2020 scandal.
The claims appear in Overcoming Infidelity: 10 Conversations to Help You Heal the Hurt. According to coverage of the book, Laura says the Biebers initially welcomed the family while they considered their next move. After the scandal broke, she alleges, someone from Justin's team called with the deadline, leaving them hurriedly packing a rented U-Haul. These are newly published allegations about events six years ago.
Carl describes the experience as a "kick to the ribs," while acknowledging that his own actions brought unwanted scrutiny upon the Biebers. He says the consequences for his wife and children were particularly painful. Page Six reported that representatives for Justin and Hailey did not immediately respond to its requests for comment; the account remains the Lentzes' version of events.
The alleged rupture carries a striking history: Justin had himself stayed with the Lentz family in New Jersey in 2014, during a difficult period when he was refocusing on his Christian faith. Their relationship had extended well beyond a pastor and a famous churchgoer.
The Lentzes say Tyler Perry subsequently offered their family accommodation in California when other friendships fell silent. Their account brings renewed attention to the wider consequences of a ministry scandal-particularly for a spouse and children left navigating the fallout of someone else's decisions.
