Christina Lynn Downer's boyfriend told police she had moved out months earlier, leaving behind her belongings, her vehicle and her dog. Now he is one of two people arrested on suspicion of her murder-a major development in the disappearance of the sister of Saturday Night Live writer Jimmy Fowlie.
Los Angeles police announced on October 30 that detectives had arrested Delorean Bijon Brandon, 41, and Kaylee Nicole Markowski, 34. The arrests took place on October 29, with Brandon taken into custody in Los Angeles and Markowski in Tarzana. Both were booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2 million each. Detectives plan to submit the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for consideration of charges.
The announcement places Brandon's earlier account at the centre of a disturbing investigation. Downer was reported missing on December 18, 2025, after her ex-husband requested a welfare check because he had not heard from her for an extended period. According to police, Brandon said she had already left their shared residence, despite leaving her possessions behind.
A discovery on the coastline brought homicide detectives into the case: Downer's cellphone washed ashore at Santa Monica Beach. Authorities say their subsequent investigation identified Brandon and Markowski as suspects in her killing, the disposal of her body and efforts to conceal their involvement. Those remain police allegations; neither suspect has been convicted.
Investigators also searched an Airbnb property in Joshua Tree earlier in October. Police have not publicly disclosed what, if anything, that search recovered, or explained the evidence connecting the two suspects to Downer's alleged killing. A motive and the precise circumstances of her death have not been detailed in the reports reviewed.
For Fowlie, the arrests follow months of public appeals for information. In April, he said investigators had informed his family that his sister was no longer alive. "Our prayers for her to be found safely have transformed into prayers for the truth to be revealed," he wrote.
That April announcement requires a distinction: police disputed his description at the time, saying Downer had not been located and the case had not formally been reclassified as a homicide. His statement should therefore not be treated as confirmation that her body was recovered in April.
The arrests mark a significant step toward the accountability her family has sought. But the public account remains incomplete: investigators have named the people they suspect while withholding much of the evidence behind that conclusion. The next stage will be prosecutors' review of the case as the police investigation continues.
