Amanda Seyfried says she has no regrets about turning down the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, calling it a choice she made for her family.
In a recent SAG-AFTRA Foundation Q&A, the Oscar nominee said the part was "just not for me" and that she decided "for my family." She also said she feared the 2014 film could be bad and hurt her career. She admitted she was wrong about that, but said she still doesn't take the decision back.
Zoe Saldaña took the role and went on to play Gamora in three Guardians films, two Avengers movies and a Disney+ holiday special.
Seyfried is also in the news for a different project. She appears in You Can See Everything, a nearly three-hour documentary that follows Elizabeth Holmes in the 34 days before she began her federal prison sentence. The film is directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. It opened in U.S. theaters on October 16 and is currently playing only in cinemas. Seyfried won an Emmy for playing Holmes in The Dropout. No streaming date has been announced.
Her answer is a reminder that choosing family and conviction over fame can be a decision worth standing by.
