Justin Timberlake is reportedly reopening two of the most notorious chapters of his pop-star past. A four-part Apple TV docuseries expected in December will revisit the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show with Janet Jackson and address recent comments by his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears, sources told Variety. The juiciest detail? Jackson herself is reportedly taking a seat in front of the camera.

Janet Jackson reportedly gets the mic

One source told Variety that Jackson will discuss the halftime performance that turned "wardrobe malfunction" into a household phrase. During "Rock Your Body," Timberlake pulled away part of Jackson's costume, briefly exposing her breast on live television. The fallout included an FCC investigation and Jackson's withdrawal from a scheduled Grammy appearance.

Jackson addressed the uproar in her own 2022 documentary, describing the incident as an accident and saying she and Timberlake had moved on and remained friends. Her reported appearance in his series puts her account inside a project centered on the man who shared the stage with her that night.

Britney Spears' side of the breakup is already on the record

Another source told Variety that Timberlake discusses some of Spears' recent comments. The report leaves open which remarks he addresses and whether Spears appears. In her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, Spears said Timberlake ended their relationship by text. She also wrote that she had an abortion during their relationship after he told her he wasn't ready to be a father.

In 2021, Timberlake publicly apologized to both women. The new series, reportedly directed by Beckham filmmaker Fisher Stevens, could offer a more detailed account. For now, December is the reported release window. Apple, Timberlake and Jackson had either declined to comment or had yet to respond when Variety published its report.
