Guardians of the Galaxy 2: To Introduce Another Guardian from the Comics, And Other Rumors
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 release date is set for July 28, 2017, according to Marvel Studios' official announcement. In fact, writer and director James Gunn has already begun working on the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. On his August 3 Facebook message, he said in part, "I've spent this weekend hard at work on the sequel. I couldn't help myself! The results are nice but it's really the creative process I love and that keeps me going. I'm on fire with this thing! The Guardians have so many hardships and heartaches and triumphs ahead of them, and I can't wait to share them with all of you. ... Onto week two..."
Of course, it's way too early to expect a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trailer since Gunn is still at the script-writing stage of the process. However, there are already several Guardians of the Galaxy 2 rumors that are making the rounds of the sci-fi and entertainment circuit. Gunn himself started it when he told reporters that "at least one more Guardian from the comics" should appear in the sequel. The other Guardians in the comics are Moondragon, Major Victory, Cosmo the Spacedog, Jack Flag, Adam Warlock, Bug, Mantis and Quasar. Could it then be Adam Warlock? At the post-credit scene of Guardians 1, it was shown that Warlock's cocoon at The Collector's ship has already been opened.
On previous occasions, Gunn also said that he would want to explore more about Quill's father, Yondu, Drax and Nebula, as well as expand on the Xandarian, Kree, Krylorian and the Ravager cultures. Quill's father, by the way, will not be J'son of Spartax as in the comics. Gunn told Empire that "it's definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I'll say that much."
Gunn, at another point, also confirmed to Yahoo that he has been discussing a potential Avengers and Guardians crossover with his Marvel bosses. Said he, "That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they're pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other." There is indeed much grist for the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 rumor mill.
