'The Walking Dead' Season 5 AMC Premiere Gets Record High Ratings in Return
"The Walking Dead" Season 5 premiered last night, October 12th on AMC and the ratings did not disappoint. The hit drama brought in a record 17.3 million total for Sunday evening's premiere which beat out the show's previous record of 16.11 million in season four.
The show also beat its previous record for adults 18-49, which brought in 11 million last night, beating the 8.2 million brought in from last season's premiere and mid-season return, Variety reports.
What did you think of the Season 5 premiere last night?
"The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Emily Kinney, Danai Gurira, and Chad L. Coleman. The series is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.
The worst part for Kirkman and Gimple is keeping the cast members in the dark. "You can't tell 'em," says Kirkman. "Because we change our minds all the time. And that's the other really bad thing about it. We can't really give them that much warning because there's always a chance that we'll get into actually writing the scripts after we plan things out and we're like, 'Nope, that character's living.' Which has happened many times. So we don't want to have many false news giving situations."
"The Walking Dead" premiered on AMC on October 31, 2010. It premiered internationally during the first week of November 2010 on Fox International Channels. On October 7, 2014, AMC renewed it for a sixth season.
The series has been nominated for many awards, including the Writers Guild of America Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.
