Calvin Simon Announces Retirement

Calvin Simon, founding member of Parliament Funkadelic and currently a Christian recording artist, announced today his retirement from a stellar music career. He began his musical journey over 25 years ago with The Parliaments and Funkadelic, which resulted in numerous Platinum and Gold albums. The group was honored with two prestigious awards over the years with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame statue and the recent Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy last month.

As a solo Christian artist since 2002, Calvin Simon released three albums that includes his current project I Believe. The record garnered gospel radio airplay for the title track and "Passing Time," with the title track still receiving radio airplay in the UK. His second solo record, It's Not Too Late, received strong support from media with coverage from Voice of America, Sirius XM Radio, CBN/700 Club, VFW Magazine, 100 Huntley Street, Christian Television Network, among many others. Simon released his first Christian project, Share The News, in 2004 that reached No. 21 on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart.

"I have enjoyed every aspect of my career," said Simon, "as it created so many wonderful opportunities for me as a man and recording artist. I love creating music, but there comes a time when you want to pull back some and enjoy all the pleasures of life. I plan to play more golf, become more involved with area charities and spend more time with family and friends."

Simon will remain active with his charitable efforts at Pasco-Hernando State College in Dade City, Fla. In March, Simon was honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award from the college, which recognizes Pasco county residents who have a positive impact in the area, along with providing leadership through their careers and charity efforts. As a result of this recognition, Simon will purchase the awards for upcoming candidates for the next three years in honor of his late wife, Jennifer, who passed away from cancer in 2013.
