"How I Met Your Mother" CBS Star Cristin Milioti Shares How She Got the News of Her Fate on the Finale (VIDEO)

"How I Met Your Mother" star Cristin Milioti shares how she found out the fate of her character Tracy (the mother). Milioti told reporters at the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour that she "didn't know from the beginning, I had no idea." So when she joined the hit CBS show, she too was in the dark about her path on the final season.

So when did the creators think was a great time to tell Milioti that she would die in the finale? They thought Christmas time would be perfect.

"They told me at the Christmas party," Milioti said. "Craig [Thomas] was talking to me and we both had a couple of drinks. And he gets very giddy and happy when he's had a few, and he was like, 'Do you want to know how it ends?' And as complete joke I said, 'What, do I die?' And he was like, 'Do you want to know?' and I said, 'Yeah, I do.' And he told me."

She immediately became emotional when she found out. "I sat there sobbing. He wrote me an e-mail the next day, being like, 'I'm so sorry I told you that way, you seemed really upset.'"

While fans were split on how the show ended, everyone fell in love with Milioti on her short time on the show. She could tell how passionate the fans were the way they went to social media after the finale. "I think that's a testament to the show that it was divisive because people were super invested and i know that while we were filming it, I had a sense that it might be very divided," she explained. "Because of course there are people that are always going to think Ted and Robin should be together and others that didn't."

Now, Milioti gets a leading role on the new NBC show "A to Z" as part of their official 2014-15 television line up. The show will also star Ben Feldman of "Mad Men" as Andrew, along with Milioti as Zelda. They released the first official trailer teaser for the show earlier this year, which you can watch above.

Writers Ben Queen ("Drive"), Rashida Jones ("Parks and Recreation") and Will McCormack ("Will & Grace") serve as executive producers. "A to Z" is a production of Warner Bros. Television and Le Train Train. Be sure to tune in to "A to Z" as it premieres on Thursdays this Fall on NBC.
