GTX 800 Series Release Date Seems Geared Toward October 2015 Following Maxwell Chip Production Delay, Specs for the GTX880 Revealed!
The reports of the GTX 800 series production being delayed have been followed shortly after within a release date which has been slated for October 2015. This should give them enough time work out the kinks. However, there is some bad news for the PC gamers that want to upgrade to the GTX 800 series because the 28nm Maxwell chips may currently be available for the GTX 750 and the 750 Ti, but the 20 nm designs for the chips are going to be delayed. The good news is that the GTX 880 will be much cheaper than the ones available for the 780 Ti which is the latest version and they will be more powerful.
The designs for the Maxwell chips were introduced this year for the GTX 750 and the 75- Ti. These Maxwell chips are also being used at the heart of the GTX 800M chips which are making rounds in gaming laptops. At the present, they are being built incorporating the 28 nm fabrications, but the future Maxwell chips are going to be using the 20 nm architectures which will be out with the GTX 800 series next year. The present rumors about the GTX 800 series state that the GeForce GTX 880 and the GeForce GTX 870 will be based on the GM204 which is the direct descendant of the GM104.
Apparently, the GeForce GTX 880 is going to come with a 3200 CUDA cores (stream processors), as well as a 950MHz Boost clock. The card is also supposed to come available with a 256-bit path to 4GB of GDDR5 memory and it is supposed to run at 7400MHz. the GM204 GPU is going to be among the first Nvidia GPU's which are going to be running in a device with built in ARM 64-bit processor core. In line with the new Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics cards, Intel is also releasing the 4th Generation Core 'Browadwell' CPU series.
