More than a month after announcing what she called her "Month of Grace," Jamaican dancehall star Spice is still leaning into a season she says was born out of survival, reflection, and renewed faith.

The artist, born Grace Latoya Hamilton, began 2026 by opening up about a serious health crisis that changed her perspective and deepened her spiritual outlook. In the weeks that followed, she released the faith-inspired single "God Don't Play About Me" and signaled a more intentional direction for the year ahead.

Now, as February unfolds, it's becoming clear that this is more than a moment - it's a reset.

A Health Crisis That Sparked Reflection

In early January, Spice revealed that a severe health scare forced her to slow down and reassess her priorities. While she has not publicly shared detailed medical specifics, she has consistently credited God for her recovery and described the experience as transformative.

Calling the start of 2026 her "Month of Grace," Spice framed the period as a spiritual turning point - one centered on gratitude, faith, and personal growth.

Rather than presenting it as a full departure from dancehall, she has positioned the shift as evolution: keeping her signature boldness while allowing room for testimony and reflection.

"God Don't Play About Me" Sets the Tone

Released on January 9, "God Don't Play About Me" marked the first official musical expression of this renewed outlook.

The track carries strong faith-driven themes, with Spice highlighting divine protection and resilience. While it maintains elements of her commanding delivery, the message leans heavily into gratitude and acknowledgment of God's presence in her life.

In interviews and social media posts, she suggested that the song represents a public declaration of faith following her health scare. She has also expressed interest in continuing to explore spiritually inspired music, though she has not formally announced a full gospel album.

Balancing Faith and Creative Freedom

Shortly after the faith-centered release, Spice returned with "Soft Girl Era," her first official dancehall single of 2026.

Describing the track as a celebration of gentle self-love and feminine energy, she wrote on Instagram: "This season is about loving myself gently and embracing my feminine energy in the softest way possible."

The rollout included retro-inspired visuals and a noticeable aesthetic shift - debuting a copper-red hairstyle that symbolized a fresh start. Together, the two releases suggest that 2026 is less about reinvention and more about recalibration.

Faith and femininity, testimony and confidence - all coexisting in one chapter.

A Career Built on Reinvention

Raised in Portmore, Jamaica, Spice has spent more than two decades shaping modern dancehall culture. Her 2018 project Captured debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Reggae Albums chart, and her Grammy-nominated album 10 solidified her international profile. In 2024, she released the expansive 26-track Mirror 25, showcasing her range and longevity.

Beyond music, she continues her philanthropic efforts through The Grace Hamilton Foundation, recently assisting families impacted by Hurricane Melissa.

A Season That Still Unfolds

One month into her "Month of Grace," the direction of Spice's 2026 is still taking shape.

Whether through faith-infused declarations like "God Don't Play About Me" or self-affirming dancehall anthems like "Soft Girl Era," the common thread appears to be intentional growth.

For an artist long known for commanding attention through volume and boldness, this new chapter seems to be rooted in something quieter - gratitude.

And if January marked the announcement, February shows that the journey is continuing.
