An Ohio pastor has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty in a case involving a 13-year-old girl, according to court records from Ashland County.

Jesse Santos, who previously served as pastor of the Canton Seventh-day Adventist Church, received the sentence Thursday from Ashland County Court of Common Pleas Judge David Stimpert.

Santos was initially arrested in February 2025 and faced several serious charges, including kidnapping, two counts of gross sexual imposition, and endangering children. Earlier this year, however, he entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of abduction, which ultimately led to the prison sentence.

According to a police report, the incident took place in September 2025 at a campsite located along the 3000 block of Ashland County Road at River Run Campground in Loudonville, Ohio.

Authorities have not released additional details about the case, but the sentencing marks the conclusion of a legal process that has drawn concern within both the local community and church circles.

For many Christians, cases like this serve as a painful reminder that spiritual leadership carries serious responsibility and accountability. Pastors are entrusted with guiding and protecting others, especially the vulnerable, and when that trust is broken the impact can be deeply felt across congregations.

At the same time, many believers continue to emphasize the importance of justice, truth, and prayer for those affected, particularly the young victim and her family.

Church leaders across denominations have increasingly stressed the need for strong safeguarding policies, transparency, and accountability to ensure that places of worship remain safe environments for children and families.
