Snoop Dogg is officially getting the biopic treatment-and this time, the story goes deeper than music, tracing not only his rise as a hip-hop icon but also his evolving journey of faith.
Announced at CinemaCon, the upcoming film will chronicle the life of Snoop Dogg, with Jonathan Daviss set to portray the young rap legend. Directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Brian Grazer-the force behind 8 Mile-the film is slated to begin production this summer ahead of a 2027 theatrical release.
But beyond the familiar narrative of West Coast dominance, chart-topping success, and cultural influence, this biopic is poised to capture a more personal dimension of Snoop's life-his spiritual evolution.
While widely celebrated for his groundbreaking debut album Doggystyle and his role in shaping the sound of hip-hop, Snoop has also explored gospel music and faith in a way that surprised many. His 2018 gospel project, Bible of Love, marked a bold and heartfelt turn, blending traditional gospel sounds with his signature style while pointing listeners toward themes of grace, redemption, and praise.
Speaking on the project at the time, Snoop emphasized that faith had always been part of his story-it just hadn't always taken center stage.
That dimension adds a compelling layer to the upcoming film. Rather than presenting a one-dimensional rise-to-fame narrative, the biopic is expected to trace the full arc of his life-from the streets of Long Beach to global stardom, and into a season of reflection where faith, family, and legacy take on greater significance.
Following in the footsteps of Straight Outta Compton, which chronicled the rise of N.W.A., Snoop has made it clear that this story is personal. This is his turn to tell it-not just as a pioneer of West Coast rap, but as a man whose journey continues to evolve.
Set to be rated R, the film will span decades of music, culture, and transformation, capturing the tension between fame and purpose, influence and identity. And in doing so, it may offer something rare in the world of music biopics: a portrait of an artist who doesn't just reinvent his sound-but wrestles with deeper questions of meaning, belief, and calling.
As Snoop Dogg continues to release music, appear across media, and remain a cultural fixture-from the studio to global stages-this film promises to remind audiences that behind the icon is a story still being written.
