While the basketball world is buzzing about Cade Cunningham's playoff dominance, the Detroit Pistons superstar already told everyone exactly where it comes from.
Back in February at NBA All-Star Weekend, a reporter asked Cunningham a simple question: where does your aura come from? His answer stopped the room.
"I get my aura from Jesus Christ and my Lord and Savior, and God blessed me with parents who raised me in a way I wouldn't trade for the world," Cunningham said at the All-Star press conference.
The clip spread instantly across social media, drawing praise from Christian fans and athletes alike. For Cunningham, it was not a one-time sound bite - it is a theme he returns to consistently. "To be on the biggest stage, doing what I love to do - I know I'm blessed. I just try to represent God's light as much as I can and glorify Him with everything," he said following a game-winning performance last season.
Now, those words carry even more weight.
Cunningham leads all scorers in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, and his Detroit Pistons - the same team that tied an NBA record with 28 consecutive losses just two seasons ago - entered this season as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. On Sunday, they closed out the Orlando Magic in a dominant Game 7 victory, 116-94, to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
In Game 5, Cunningham erupted for 45 points - a new Pistons franchise playoff record, surpassing a mark set by Dave Bing back in 1968. Then in Game 6, with Detroit trailing, he helped lead a rally to put the Pistons in command heading into the decisive game. They never looked back.
The turnaround from league laughingstock to playoff contender has been remarkable. But Cunningham has never seemed surprised by it. For a player whose faith is this visible and this consistent, it reads less like confidence and more like conviction.
Detroit now faces the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round, with Game 1 tipping off tomorrow. Whatever happens next, Cade Cunningham already made his biggest statement months ago - on a microphone, at a press conference, crediting Jesus Christ.
