RAYE Expands Into Film With Lineage as Faith-Infused New Era Continues

RAYE is continuing a major new chapter in her career - one that now stretches across both music and film.

The British singer-songwriter has officially joined the cast of Lineage, an upcoming London-set crime thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yann Demange, known for Top Boy, White Boy Rick, and '71

The project marks RAYE's first major scripted film role and places her alongside an international cast that includes Isabelle Huppert, Dali Benssalah, and Adam Bessa. Reports describe the film as a gritty story centered on a former prisoner attempting to rebuild his life before being drawn back into London's criminal underworld through family ties.

Director Yann Demange has described the movie as deeply personal, calling it "a homecoming" and "a love letter to the London I grew up in." The acting announcement comes during a highly visible season for RAYE creatively. This week, the Billboard cover star also appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she performed "Click Clack Symphony" and "Joy" from her new album THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. Backed by a full gospel choir, the performance highlighted the deeply personal and spiritually reflective direction of the record.

"Joy" in particular has drawn attention for its connection to RAYE's faith journey. Over recent years, the singer has openly spoken about battling darkness, depression, and addiction - and about how reconnecting with God became part of her healing process. Rather than presenting itself as overtly preachy, the album explores those experiences with vulnerability, emotional honesty, and recurring spiritual themes.

The transition into acting now signals yet another evolution for the artist, whose recent rise has already transformed her from songwriter and breakout vocalist into one of the most critically acclaimed performers in modern British pop.

Production on Lineage is expected to begin in London in August 2026.
