In a music industry full of vague statements and carefully worded excuses, Kiefer Sutherland did something refreshingly rare - he just told the truth.
The actor and musician announced on May 15 that he is canceling the entire US leg of his Love Will Bring You Home Tour, which would have marked his first American shows in seven years. The reason, he said plainly, was low ticket sales.
"With great disappointment I am going to have to cancel the US leg of my tour due to very low ticket sales," Sutherland wrote on Instagram. "I don't think it's fair to the people who have bought tickets, or the venues, to play to half empty houses."
He added that refunds would be available at point of purchase and closed with: "I look forward to touring the United States again at a more suitable time. I hope you understand."
No excuses. No redirects. Just a straight answer and a promise to make it right for the fans who had already purchased tickets.
The cancellation comes as Sutherland was riding momentum from a successful European run of the same tour. His fourth studio album Grey - a collection of deeply personal songs he describes as more about his own inner life than anything he has previously recorded - is still set for release on May 29.
Sutherland is not alone. Post Malone, Meghan Trainor, the Pussycat Dolls, and Zayn Malik have all recently canceled or postponed US tour dates, with industry observers pointing to high ticket prices and an oversaturated concert market as contributing factors.
But while others offered careful explanations, Sutherland kept it simple - and in doing so, gave his fans the one thing they deserved most: the truth.
